Book Review of ‘The diary of Anne Frank’

The book is also known as ‘The Diary of a young girl’. It is about a girl named Anne Frank a Jew, who wrote it while being in hideout for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of Netherlands. Her family was apprehended in 1944 and she died in a concentration camp in 1945. The book was retrieved by her father, Otto Frank, the family’s only survivor after the end of the war. The book got published in more than 67 languages. It received widespread critical and popular attention  and is included in the list of the top books of the 20th century. It’s sold more than 31 million copies. 

The book was found in the attic of the hiding place of Anne. It tells mainly about the life of a young innocent girl who had to hide because of Hitler’s cruel motives. Being a Jew she had to flee from her home in Amsterdam and go in hiding. They lived in an old office building which was called ‘Secret Annex’ cut off from the outside world. They had to live facing hunger, boredom and the ever-present threat of death if found out. In this diary she recorded vivid impressions of her experiences in this difficult than hell circumstances and how they coped with it. Her account gives a fascinating commentary of human courage, pressures and a wonderful self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young girl who could muster more bravery than was imagined there could be. It tells about her moments of fear, happiness, some hopes and promises she could not fulfill along with some funny moments that too found a place in that tragic episode of life.

It is one of the most moving personal documentations which were written during the cruel times of World War 1. It is the best testament to an indestructible nobility of young spirits in the face of pure evil. It shows the power of a girl’s unwavering spirits, her efforts to make out something valuable in the face of a diary in that period of destruction and utmost turmoil. She had the courage and power to stand out when all went down and accepted defeat. Though she died later but she was a winner in her life and she demonstrated it better than many. She still lives in the golden pages of history and can never be forgotten.

Anne Frank is the author of the book ‘The Diary of Anne Frank. She was born on June 12,1929 in Frankfurt, Germany and was four years old when her father moved to Holland to find a better place for their family. She was an intelligent and perceptive girl and wanted to become a writer. She wrote about her good and bad experiences together, the fears and perils she went through and her simple wishes and desires too. She died of Typhus in the concentration camp at Bergen-Belsen in 1945. She may have left this world but she will always be remembered as a beautiful and spirited soul who showed that one can follow one’s dreams being anywhere and in any circumstance though she was unable to fulfill her promise.
